When should I go to the doctor for a headache?

Headache is really a very common issue and everybody must have experienced it. There are so many types of headaches that you may experience in your life. Is it dangerous? Should you see the doctor when you feel a headache? Well, these are some questions that may hit your brain while you suffer from severe headaches. Let’s talk about it in detail.

Well, a normal headache is not a symptom of serious health issues, but you should still know all about the headache patterns.

Primary Headache:

It is caused by an issue with the head’s pain-sensitive structure or overactivity. It may include tension headache, migraine with aura, migraine, cluster headache, and more. It can be triggered by some factors including stress, skipped meals, poor posture, lack of sleep, certain foods, and alcohol.

Secondary headache:

It can activate the head’s pain-sensitive nerves. Some common causes of it include stroke, panic attacks, high BP, MSG, hangovers, Glaucoma, dental issue, ear problems, dehydration, brain tumor, sinus infection, and more. If you experience a secondary headache, then you should see a doctor.

This may be a sign of a serious health issue like encephalitis, meningitis, and stroke. If you are experiencing the worst headache, then just call the local emergency number and seek medical help.

A severe headache, worst and sudden headache can be serious. If your pain is accompanied by trouble walking, trouble speaking, stiff neck, trouble seeing, high fever, numbness, fainting, and trouble seeing and many such issues, then you need medical help.

When should you schedule a doctor’s visit?

  • If a headache occurs more frequently and you find it unusual.
  • If it is severe, new and sudden and accompanied by dizziness, weakness, tingling, blind spots, fever, vomiting, nausea, blurry vision and more
  • If it keeps you from participating in normal activities and disturb your sleep and work
  • Three or more headaches in a week
  • Headache getting worse with time

These are some signs that you should observe and see the doctor. These are the red flags and you cannot ignore it. But, don’t be panic. You should observe your headache pattern.

The doctor may ask a few questions regarding your pain and suggest the right treatment. Not all, headaches are dangerous or warning alarm for something bad. You may get rid of it with the right treatment, so just go with the right process.
